Hey, Advisors- just FYI, I go through the new members every day or every other day to weed out the fake profiles (selling acai berries, mortgages, etc). Most of them are harmless, but once in awhile I find a really inappropriate one (found one today…

I wanted to take a moment to brag on our T4PE members Adarsha Shivakumar and Apoorva Rangan- there is a lovely article on insidebayarea.com about their work to save wildlife in India. Here's a link to the article: http://www.insidebayarea.com/ci_13

"Gifts"

The Gifts feature you are all seeing on your home page is apparently something our network server, Ning, put up. It's basically a moneymaking thing for them- you buy credits, send virtual hugs or flowers or kittens or what-have-you. As this is a not-for-profit site I'm looking into having Gifts removed. For now, you can just ignore it.

(I myself don't see the value in virtual gifts. In fact, if someone gave me a virtual pony, I'd assume the person was making fun of my deep-seated desire to own… Continue

RIP Patrick Swayze

As I go through the new members on T4PE, banning the ones that are actually ads for acai berries, teeth whiteners, and how-to-potty-train-a-puppy (Seriously? BTW- apologies if you've received messages from some of these things- I'm trying to keep up on weeding them out), I'm thinking about actor Patrick Swayze and how sad I was to hear of his passing. I know for most of you he's another (kind of) older actor, but for those of us who were the right age when Dirty Dancing hit, for a brief t… Continue

How do you spread the word without sounding preachy?

Last night we had 3 performances of "The Adventures of Captain Cocoa" at the Bronx Zoo for an event. I love this show, as the message, that consumer choices we make here can help save habitats around the world, is a good one for any age, even though the show is geared for ages six to twelve. But this morning, when I turned on the TV (Comedy Central, 'cause I love The Daily Show and it's often the last thing I watch at night), first thing I saw was a 30-minute infomercial for some kind of… Continue

Balance in Nature

I came across this article on Salon.com about the concept of balance in nature. Unlike the Salon writer, I don't know of any ecologists who oppose the concept, so I think the beginning part is kind of meh. The second half is pretty interesting, though, as it looks at nature as a series of balances and imbalances and what that means to those seeking to conserve what we have. I especially enjoyed the thoughts on balance/imbalance and biodiversity.… Continue

Dear Nicole,
Im the adviser of the gspdispatch, a group of girl scouts in Panacan National High School, Panacan, Narra, Palawan. We plan to initiate Zero Waste Project in our school, barrio and town. We've read a lot about this matter but still need advices. Can you help us? But we really plan to kick off for our towns waste management is terribly horrible. Maybe we can start in our school then to the outside. Since election is coming we will just wait it to finish in May. What we thought is it requires a big step to start it, HOW its the question in our mind. But we believe we can do this.

Thanks for your support , we are looking forward to expanding the project. We could do with some more knowledge on youth service learning, Great Ape and volunteers,eg those with previous experience on project like these. This could help us address some problems we are encountering

This was really nice, I even remembered this last weekend, I just had to clean my house, I bet it was worse than outside! Ha, but really it was so terrible, I couldn't even sleep. Alright, so Saturday morning, it's cleaning time(:
