ALL ABOUT ME

As the former Project Advisor for Teens for Planet Earth and Program Coordinator of Girls for Planet Earth, I thoroughly enjoyed working with the Wildlife Conservation Society for seven years. Now I'm setting a new goal: to help children of all ages and their families spend more time outside, reaping the many benefits that nature has to offer.

People who regularly spend time outside are happier, healthier, and even smarter than those who do not. More and more research is showing that contact with nature is necessary for healthy development in children as well as the physical, mental, and emotional health of both children and adults.

So... get outside! And if you're in the RI area, check out Rhode Island Families in Nature.

Great Projects Out There

You know, no matter how many times I look at the 2008 and 2009 Service Award winners, or speak to any teen out there doing some great work for the planet, I'm always impressed. What oftentimes starts as a small, simple activity, many times grows into a wonderful, multi-faceted conservation project that can have a real, solid impact on the environment.

For all of you… Continue

Staying Motivated/Team Dynamics

Service-Learning Projects can be quite inspiring, interesting, rewarding...and challenging! Every team's energy and passion ebbs and flows throughout a project. Here are five simple ways to stay motivated and, by the way, help you and your team members get along:

1. Take a field trip to a zoo, park, or other natural area to relax and regroup.

2. Praise your fellow teammates. You can even write a note to each of them thanking them f… Continue

Work on the Wild Side!

Ever think about a career in conservation? Well, you don't need to be a science type to work to protect wildlife and wild lands. Check out our Careers section, with bios of people working in WCS in all types of fields, like tiger research, fund-raising, photography, and many more. They're all really fascinating and all open to teens like you.

One thing highlighted on each page is what each of these staff members did in high school… Continue

Three Guides to Help You

In case you haven't had a chance to check out all the neat resources on the T4PE website, I wanted to point out three of them that may be of great help to you as you start or continue an environmental service-project.

1. Am I a Conservationist? This is a fun little quiz to find out how green you are. After you take it, challenge your friends to a "green-off" to see wh… Continue

Working with an Adult Advisor

If you haven't noticed yet, there's a section of this website called Advisors.

Now, you might be an adult advisor - actual or aspiring - which is basically a teacher, group leader, counselor, principal, sports coach, parent, or any individual, age 21 or older, who works with teens carrying out an environmental project. If so, first of all, you're really cool! Secondly, you might want to do two things:
1) Join our… Continue

emm well yes...we did think about that..we went requesting the local shops to replace the plastic with paper bags...emmm in the beginning thought they agreed but later on we felt it would not be effective...so wat we have planned is we will be askin the visitors to either drop the polythene bag and purchase the paper bag or else...we will be using the reuseable or lets say washable bags....
as far as our concern we are sure people will stop using the polythene bag but the big problem out here is the wrappers of Lays and other snacks which they bring and throw nywhere they like....
so we are planning to take immediate action for this...like askin them to throw it into the dustbin or either eat only in particular place...but i want something which is more effective...and take be taken immediately...
